This was a last minute decision. I didn’t expect to spend the time putting these things together because I knew they were going to take so much work. However, Mutemath and Twenty One Pilots were teaming up one last time before the Twenty One Pilots “Blurryface” album cycle comes to a close. Twenty One Pilots have a final tour in Columbus this week that they have dubbed “Tour de Columbus.” It is the final tour before they take a break to presumably start working on their next album. They had invited Mutemath to open for them at one of these shows and they were going to play with them on stage during their set.
I decided to make these as an homage and “thank you” to the band for being so gracious to Mutemath this past year. It is one thing to simply state that a band has influenced you, but when a band is so humble as to share that band’s influences directly with their own audiences through support and collaboration, it becomes something else entirely. I am thankful to them for giving Mutemath a massive new platform and a new found inspiration!
I also finally figured out how I wanted to construct these and what images should go where. I decided Josh should be on the right shoe because his kit sits on stage right. He was also paired with the “Blurryface” album because that is the album where he became just as much of a frontman as Tyler. The image next to Josh is his tattoo sleeve that is on his right arm. Tyler is on the left shoe because his piano sits on stage left, even though he bounces around all over the stage. He was also paired with the albums “Vessel” and “Twenty One Pilots” because he did the vast majority, if not all of the writing on those albums.
I am extremely tired as I finished these at 6:30AM this morning, but I am very happy with how they turned out!
